Week 3

Recovering from my concussion, the start of the week was still a bit challenging.

I had football practice on both Monday and Wednesday, and overall, it went smoothly.

On Tuesday, I went for a run that included some elevation gain. Here are the stats:

I took a rest day on Thursday due to a headache, which I suspected might still be lingering from the concussion.

The weekend, however, turned out fantastic! On Friday, I kicked things off with a bike ride and shattered personal records at 10, 20, 30, and 40 kilometers.

Saturday morning, I shattered my swim record for 1,500m, clocking in at an impressive 42:31 minutes. It’s exciting to see such progress, especially considering I only started learning to swim properly three months ago.

Later in the afternoon, I hopped on my bike for another ride and managed to set a new personal best for 50 kilometers.

It felt incredible to break personal records in both brick units this week!

On Sunday, I kept it light with a 6.5 km run in Zone 1, saving energy for the afternoon football match. Unfortunately, we lost, but I played the full 90 minutes, which felt great from a fitness perspective.

Now, it’s time to gear up for an exciting week ahead—my first race week since starting this training block!

Weekly Plan:

  • Monday & Wednesday: Football practice
  • Tuesday: Brick unit day—10 km run followed by a 1,500m swim after work
  • Thursday: Gym session
  • Friday: Bike ride
  • Saturday: Football match
  • Sunday: Race Day! Half Marathon in Wels, Austria

I’m feeling confident and aiming to finish the half marathon in under 1:40. Just how much faster? We’ll find out soon!

Feel free to share any suggestions you have for improving my training or enhancing my blog. Your feedback is always welcome!

Week 2

Here’s a brief update following Week 2:

Unfortunately, the week didn’t go as planned. I came down with the flu at the end of last week and had to stay home until Thursday to recover. On Friday, I played in a football match but was forced to stop after just 10 minutes due to a head injury. By Saturday, things hadn’t improved, so I went to the hospital and was diagnosed with a concussion and strained neck muscles.

Despite the setbacks, I managed to make some progress. Feeling better by Sunday morning, I went swimming and set a new personal record for 1,500m (43:30). Encouraged by this, I attempted a 40km bike ride in the afternoon but soon realized I wasn’t back to full strength and had to cut it short at 20km.

This week was far from ideal, but I’m determined to ease back into a normal routine and gradually increase my training next week.

Here’s the plan:

  • Monday & Wednesday: Football practice.
  • Tuesday: Repeat the 15km run I originally planned for last Saturday.
  • Thursday: Coaching the U19 football team followed by a stability session at the gym.
  • Friday: Reattempt the 40km bike ride I couldn’t complete this week.
  • Saturday: Brick training—65km bike ride followed by a 1,500m swim.
  • Sunday: Football match, plus an interval run in the morning.

I’m hoping for better results and some achievements to share in next week’s update!

Hello world!

Hello World Featured Image

Welcome, everyone, to Try Beyond!

I had planned to launch this blog back in January, but I ran into some challenges while setting up the webpage. Thankfully, with a little help from my friend Daniel, everything is finally up and running. Here’s a quick recap of what’s been happening in January and February!

In January, I was fully committed to preparing for my very first Marathon, which was scheduled to take place in Bad Füssing on the 2nd of February. My training was intense and heavily focused on running to build endurance and stamina for the big day. In addition to running, I incorporated swimming exercises into my routine, as improving my swimming skills has been my biggest personal challenge and an area where I needed substantial progress. Over the course of the month, I managed to log a total of 143 kilometers, dedicating 37 hours to my training efforts.

February kicked off with a major milestone in my journey. I completed my very first marathon, crossing the finish line with a time of 3:49:48. It was an incredible experience and a moment I’ll always remember. The very next day, I treated myself to a new racing bike—a CUBE Attain SLX C62. Along with all the necessary equipment, the investment totaled 3,300,- €. As for my training efforts this month, I managed to log 317 kilometres, dedicating a total of 37 hours to my workouts. The addition of the bike definitely contributed to boosting my kilometre count, and I’m excited to see how it enhances my future training sessions.

Let’s dive into the key takeaways and wrap up last weeks training.

Monday, March 3rd: I only had a football training session.

Tuesday: Went to the pool and completed 32 laps (1.6 kilometers).

Wednesday: Another football training session.

Thursday: Rest day with a light Yoga session.

Friday: Played 75 minutes in a football match but had to stop due to circulation issues.

Saturday: Despite feeling fatigued, I managed a 65 km bike ride in 2 hours and 47 minutes. In the afternoon, I swam 1.3 km in 42 minutes. By evening, fatigue really set in, and I considered skipping Sunday’s training.

Sunday: I felt slightly better in the morning, so I completed 4×4 Norwegian Sprints (pace details in the picture). However, I skipped the afternoon cycling session as I started feeling really unwell.

As it turns out, I’ve come down with the flu and will need to take a break moving forward.

I originally planned to attend football training on Monday and go swimming on Tuesday, but I need to listen to my body. If I’m feeling better, I’ll reschedule football training for Wednesday and hit the gym on Thursday. Friday is game day, so I’ll be focused on my football match.

On Saturday, I’m heading to Munich to catch the 1860 match, leaving me with limited time. However, I might squeeze in a quick morning run before heading out. Sunday will be reserved for a longer bike ride and making up the swim session I missed earlier in the week. It’s shaping up to be a slower week, but prioritizing my health comes first.

Feel free to share any suggestions you have for improving my training or enhancing my blog. Your feedback is always welcome!
